LabelLinks - Overview
Like labels? Like folders?
LabelLinks allows you to label your labels as well as your emails, combining the best of both worlds.
There are two models to which one can nest labels.
1. Subscription - based
[label name]:[comma delimited label names (or subscriptions)]
e.g. Notes: School, Work, Personal Projects
2. Folder - based (a la, Folders4GMail)
[hierarchical slash delimited parent label names]/[label name]
e.g. Memberships/Social Networks/Facebook
According to the GMail folks:
Labels do all the work folders do and give you an extra bonus: you can add more than one to a conversation. Once you've created a label, you can view all the messages with that label by searching, or by clicking the label name along the left side of any Gmail page.
The caveat to this notion is that you leave out one great attribute of a folder based system, grouping.
LabelLinks allows the leveraging of folder-like compartmentalization, while avoiding container exclusivity. What?!?!
Basically, any message can be a member of any number of groups.
